Local Groups

Chesham is blessed with a large volunteer community that help the people, environment and businesses of the town. They are always interested in your views and offers of support.

Transition Town Chesham

Chesham in Transition is part of a worldwide movement, details of which can be found at : http://www.transitiontowns.org/, but it is best summed up in their question :”For all those aspects of life that this community needs in order to sustain itself and thrive, how do we significantly increase resilience (to mitigate the effects of Peak Oil) and drastically reduce carbon emissions (to mitigate the effects of Climate Change)”

For Chesham in Transition (TT) we have as our aim “to encourage and enable our community to make the transition away from dependence on non-renewable energy to a safe and sustainable future.” We are non-religious, non-political and not for profit. Website

Chesham in Bloom

The Chesham in Bloom campaign began in 2005 to improve the way that Chesham looks and how people feel about their town. With support from the town council and local organisations, people from all sections of Chesham’s community are working together to tidy and brighten up the town. Website

The Chesham Society

The Chesham Society is the local amenity Society for Chesham town and the surrounding parishes of Chartridge, Cholesbury-cum-St Leonards, Ashley Green, Latimer and Chesham Bois. We are a voluntary group of people who care for the Chesham area.

Formed in 1957, we are a registered charity, affiliated to the Civic Trust and a founder member of the Association of North Thames Amenity Societies and the Town Council Environmental Group. We are not political and cooperate with other groups working for the good of the town and act as a forum for debate. The Chesham Society monitors local planning schemes and applications, and encourages debate to ensure that the interests of local people are properly heard.

We welcome as members all local residents, with or without professional skills, who would like to learn about, discuss, or help to develop, ideas and schemes to protect and improve whatever is best in Chesham. We have no political bias. The Chesham Society’s aim is to promote the highest standards in planning, design, building and restoration, use of materials and other matters, appropriate to the Town and its people. Website

Walkers are Welcome

Chesham is the first Walkers Are Welcome town in the Chilterns, achieving this status in 2010. Chesham is a place that walkers are encouraged to visit as part of their exploration of the area – which has a plethora of beautiful and varied walks, and all at the end of the Metropolitan line! Chesham nestles amongst beautiful valleys, has unique natural features such as the chalk stream River Chess and is adjacent to the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Chesham is an interesting place and we want to encourage visitor walkers to share its attractions with us. Website
